GIRL SCOUT THINKING DAY

My name is Alison Duffy and I am your America’s Miss Teen 2010.  I feel extremely honored and privileged to have the opportunity to represent such a wonderful pageant system for the upcoming year!  A resident of Elkton, Maryland, I am a 19 year old sophomore elementary education major at Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.  During my freshman year in college, I earned a 4.0 GPA and was awarded the College of Education Academic Excellence Award as well as several scholarships.  In addition, I am a member of the Kutztown University Dance Team and the university’s chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children.

I enjoy combining my love for education and children with my passion for staying active in my community by promoting literacy in public schools and libraries.  Throughout the past three years, I have had the amazing opportunity to promote my platform From Picture Books to Novels: Promoting Lifelong Literacy and am very excited to expand my work with reading with the title of America’s Miss Teen 2010.  I love being able to read to elementary and middle school students, donate books to classrooms and libraries, and have a significant impact on the children I meet. When I am not busy studying for tests, working at my job, or making appearances, I enjoy reading, dancing, spending time with my friends, and making trips to Wisconsin with my family.  I was a student at Cecil Dancenter for 14 years and was an instructor for 2 years.  Also, I was a member of the studio’s pre-professional ballet company for 7 years.

In addition to winning the national title, I also won the Red Carpet Presentation competition in the teen division and the Spirit of Pageantry Award.

As America’s Miss Teen 2010, I hope to present a positive role model for young girls and to inspire today’s youth to maintain a lifelong passion for reading.  I am looking forward to spending the upcoming year as America’s Miss Teen!  I also am excited to spend the year with Alison Tripple, America’s Miss 2010, and Evelyn McCleod, America’s Mrs. 2010, as we travel the nation promoting our personal platforms as well as The Starlight Children’s Foundation.  This will certainly be an experience I will never forget!
